Blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruits combine with aromas of mixed toasted spice, dried herbs and violets. The palate has flavours of fresh dark and blueberry fruits, earthy spice- cloves, nutmeg and hints of cedar. The wine has a fine long tannin structure with lingering flavours
Select parcels are taken at optimal ripeness from the Hugo Estate with careful barrel selection used to create the final blend.
One of the more challenging years in the past decade. Rain from September - through to harvest created consistent challenges in reaching optimal ripeness.
Thankfully attention to detail in viticulture including bunch thinning to reduce crop load & speed up ripening, lift up foliage wires to let in more sun light, and restricted irrigation provided some outstanding results particularly in the younger grenache block.
Region: McLaren Vale
Years planted: 1969, 1972 & 1988
Elevation: 180-200m above sea level
Hugo Estate grown Shiraz from 3 blocks planted by the Hugo family in 1969, 1972 & 1988 on the elevated Hugo estate. Single cordon with lift up foliage wires.
